| AGES AND STAGES |
| The Beginners - (age 4 - 6 months) Those trying solid foods for the first time. A solid food diet is an important mile stone for your baby. Avoid foods that may be likely to cause allergic reactions. Introduce healthy and tasty single item fruit and vegetable purees, and organic cereal when your child is ready. The Explorers - (age 6 - 9 months) Those who are adept at chewing, and want to explore more food tastes and textures. Your child will most likely begin cutting teeth, so coarser textures and bites will be welcome. Introduce proteins and food combinations. Feeding time is expressive and can be an adventure. The Independents - (age 9 - 12 months) They know what they like and want to eat it themselves. Guide them with a variety of nutritious meals as well as healthy snacks. Meal times start to become about family time, but things may get a bit messy. The Movers - (12 - 24 months) You've established good eating habits and continue to help them expand their tastes. They may be eating the same food as the rest of the family, but they need fuel between meals due to their high activity level. Choose nutrition and taste over "fast and convenient" foods. The Shakers - (2 - 3 years) They may refuse food items they enjoyed at a younger age - this is a test of independence. Try to avoid using bribes to get your active toddler to eat - they will eat when they are hungry. The Conoisseurs - (3+ years) They just may prefer Neiman Schell beef to McDonald's - or not. Get children involved in meal time decisions and helping with tasks such as setting the table and mixing batters. They are chefs in the making. |
